Rio de Janeiro: To & From the airport

The international airport is around 20 km away from the city and unfortunately travelers can become prisioners of few options there are to reach the city.

You can always ask for a transfer (transportation) in your Hotel, but if the preference is to do all on your own
here are the options you have.

FAST AND EXPENSIVE

Taxis. You can call a cab to pick you up there by using any taxi app’s and wait a few minutes in the main door. Second option: take one that has just dropped another passenger.
The third – and last – option: take one of the taxis from the airport that will absolutely charge you a fortune as they don’t use meters on their rides. They can be found near the airport’s exit, clad in colors, behind a helpful booth. But be wary as they can charge an obsecene amount for the ride. Normally those taxis are grey, white or blue and have a fixed price (Curiosity: In Brazil the color of taxis are different for each city. In Rio they are yellow, in Niteroi they are navy blue, In Sao Paulo, Natal and Salvador white and etc.

All types of taxis @ the airport

Pros: Taxis are indeed my favorite mean of transportation as they are fast, safer and comfortable (I NEVER take the ones that work exclusively for the airport because the price difference can be almost double).

Cons: You can be overcharged by having a driver that may take you on a little joy ride before you reach your destination (which is likely to happen anywhere).

FAST AND FURIOUS

Rent a car. There are plenty of car rentals there with a gps. Good luck and be ready to have the greatest adventure of your life. Details here!!

Pros: Promise, I will think about one and update this post ;-P

Cons: Signs are poorly written and dispersed (especially in English), the traffic jam can be heavy from the airport and drivers can be quite impatient.

(Less) FAST AND CHEAP

The blue bus has four lines that makes transportation to and from both airports in the city to a few neighborhoods like: Barra, Downtown, Rodoviária Novo Rio (Bus Station), Flamengo, Botafogo, Gavea, Jardim Botânico, Copacabana, Leblon etc.
